Alta Gracia

Alta Gracia Society Structure

2011 | ACADEMIC PROJECT, ETSAM.

Context
Medical tourism is on the rise. Travelling far away is the perfect occasion to undergo and recover from surgery. As we ease our dependence on oil, we ought to tackle the potential of unused infrastructure that can be repurposed to meet other needs.
 –
Proposal
This project channels our society’s obsession with personal image by providing a place isolated from time and space for patients to overcome the deep transformations occurred to their bodies after plastic surgery.
  –
Alta Gracia is an off-shore surgical clinic built on the back of a semi-submergible oil rig. The industrial facility transforms into a medical tourism complex thanks to a series of functional “implants”.  Users will dive into a pool specially designed for post-operatoy patients, or sunbathe without worrying about their stitches becoming scars.
